HOST A LOWER KEY LIVING ROOM SHOW
WHAT IS A LIVING ROOM SHOW?
It's exactly what it sounds like! You (the host) invite your favorite artists to use your home as a venue for an evening of acoustic indie music. All you need to host a show is a big open space and someone to check off names at your door. We've done shows in living rooms, basements, garages, art galleries, and more. Tickets are only sold in advance, so you don't have to deal with any money. Your address stays private, so there won't be random people showing up trying to get tickets. The result is the most intimate show you'll ever attend. Lower Key living room shows are a truly unforgettable experience!
HOW MANY PEOPLE SHOULD MY SPACE HOLD?
Depending on the city and the artist's needs, we're looking for spaces that can safely and comfortably hold anywhere from 20-50 people.
DO I NEED A SOUND SYSTEM?
Nope! Most of these shows are completely acoustic, meaning no mics, no cables, no sound system. This is just one of the many things that make Lower Key shows so special. It’s just audience and performer. Because of this (and also the weather), we typically don’t do shows outside. On occasion, we may make an exception, and in that case, we can discuss sound system needs!
DO I NEED A COOL STAGE?
All you need is an open space on one end of a room for us to set up our “stage” area. Every artist’s stage is different. Some bring a backdrop, some bring twinkle lights, and some just bring their music. All we need from you is a chair for the performer. Anything with no arms that doesn't roll will do just fine. We ain't picky!
WILL MY ADDRESS BE PUBLIC ON THE INTERNET?
Never. We post the zip code to give folks a general idea of location, but guests will only receive the show address after purchasing tickets, and your address will never be published anywhere on the web.
WHAT WILL THE SHOW SCHEDULE BE?
It can vary from show to show, but generally shows take place in a block of 4-5 hours from set up to break down. A three-band show might go like this: Artists arrive at 6:00pm to set up. Guests start arriving at 6:30pm. Music starts at 7:00pm and ends at 10:00pm, with a short intermission between each band. After the music, the artists will hang out, sell merch and meet your guests. Guests are welcome to mingle as well, but are asked to leave your space by 11:00pm, unless you say otherwise.
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE SEATING FOR EVERYONE?
Don't worry! Guests are told in advance that many shows are floor seating. Some choose to bring their own cushions or chairs. You don’t need to have seating for everyone. If you do have seating, that’s great! Just make sure it’s arranged by before guests arrive.
WHAT IF I WANT TO PUT OUT SNACKS?
This is totally up to you! It's not required of you at all. You're already letting us have a show in your space, you perfect angel! But if you want to put out snacks, you're more than welcome to unleash your inner Martha Stewart. We love snacks.
WHAT'S THE ALCOHOL POLICY?
This is also completely up to you. If you’d like to allow BYOB, we inform guests that they are welcome to bring a bottle of wine or a few beers and should be prepared to show ID for proof of legal drinking age if asked. We also go above and beyond to remind guests that this is a chill acoustic show, not a party, and they should plan to behave accordingly and respect your space.
CAN I INVITE MY FRIENDS OVER?
Yes! As a host, you’ll have a free ticket to the show for yourself, your roommates, plus 5 free tickets reserved for your guests. If you have more than 5 friends who’d like to attend the show, you should direct them to buy tickets online and help keep independent music alive!
DO I NEED TO HAVE SPACE FOR THE ARTIST TO STAY AFTER THE SHOW?
Nope! We make sure to never overstay our welcome. Unless you've invited us to stay longer, we'll be heading out shortly after the show is through. Pack in, pack out!
